UFC Hall of Famer and UMMAF Board Member Matt Hughes will be on hand at the USA National Amateur MMA Championship Tournament at Evolution Sports Gym in #Elizabethton on May 26-28.
The nine-time UFC Welterweight Champion serves on the UMMAF Executive Board, and will help oversee the national-championship action.
Valor Fights President Tim Loy, who is promoting the event, is excited for the MMA icon to be a part of the festivities in Elizabethton, which is also the host city of Valor Fights 41: Cala vs. Wright on March 18, LIVE on FloCombat.
“Matt Hughes is as accomplished as any athlete in the history of MMA and has had a successful post-fighting career on the administrative side of the sport,” Loy said. “We’re very excited to welcome him, and the rest of the UMMAF team to Tennessee.”
The feeling, Hughes said, is mutual.
“I’m excited to come down to #Tennessee for the UMMAF National Tournament. It’s always fun to watch fighters compete under the pressure of a big tournament,” the legendary MMA icon said. “Good luck to all competitors!”
“There’s no better event for an amateur MMA athlete who feels they’re ready to go pro,” added UMMAF Southeast Regional Director Justin Brown. “Come see the beautiful mountains of Eastern Tennessee and compete against the best from around the country to earn your place as a National Champion, and your spot at the Amateur World Championships!”
