#ValorFights is heading towards the Evolution Sports Gym in #Elizabethton on March 18 with fight match-ups that will have die-hard MMA fans sitting on the edge of their seats. I’m going to preview two match-ups that should cause you to grab your homie by the ears and scream, “It’s going to be a war!”
Co-Main Event Lightweight 145 lbs.: Damir Ferhatbegovic vs. Luis Pena
Luis Pena (2-0) from #LittleRock, Ark., and out of St. Charles MMA fight camp will enter the Valor cage with a perfect record. This fighter may have the most potential of anyone on this entire fight card. Pena has college wrestling experience, Golden Gloves in boxing, and somehow stands 6-foot-3 at 155 pounds. Pena has the kind of range that could give fighters trouble in several weight classes above him. His deadliest weapon is a seemingly inescapable body lock that he utilizes to rain down elbows from angles that only someone with his range could possibly execute. His cardio has never been an issue and he is practically bouncing off the stool between rounds.
Damir Ferhatbegovic (3-0) from #Milici, #Bosnia but now local to #Knoxville is also entering the Valor cage with a perfect record. Ask anyone from his fight camp at Shield Systems Martial Arts and Fitness about Damir and they will all tell you the same story - Damir is without question a natural born killer. I have been fortunate enough to see him fight and train live. There is something unnerving about how calm and stoic he is before battle. I asked him why he fights and he replied, “This is what Bosnians were bred to do.” What Damir lacks in size to Pena is easily made up for with his skill set. Damir has earned a 1 stripe purple belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under 2nd degree black belt Ben Harrison. Damir’s deadliest weapon is his high-level ground game that he employs after he has broken his opponents will from his standup and relentless cage pressure.
It’s really tough to predict the winner here but that’s why I love this match-up so much. I don’t believe Pena has figured out how to utilize his range yet and I’ve seen him miss submissions that have been handed to him in a gift basket. Damir will keep the fight in the range he’s most comfortable with, employ his ground and pound, and finish Pena via submission.
Prediction: Damir via third-round submission
